The European Cluster Platform will be holding an EU Cluster Talk on "EU Funding for Critical Technologies: Special Session on the STEP Initiative" on 3 July at 07:30 am (Portuguese time).
This session will present the European Commission's new initiative, launched on 1 March, STEP - Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform, and will discuss challenges in accessing funding, as well as interesting advances in Digital and Innovation Technology; Clean and Resource Efficient Technologies and Biotechnologies.
STEP aims to strengthen the EU's industrial competitiveness and reduce external dependencies by funding the development and manufacture of critical technologies in the EU.
This initiative essentially focuses on 3 sectors:
i) Digital and deep innovation tech, including Artificial intelligence, Quantum technologies, Advanced connectivity;
ii) Clean and resource efficient tech, including carbon capture and storage technologies, heat pumps;
iii) Bio tech, including molecular biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, crop biotechnology.
This initiative aims to mobilise funds from 11 existing EU-funded programmes and is expected to increase investment in these sectors by up to 50 billion euros, through existing EU instruments combined with other public and private funds.
