Speakers: Dr. Ramón J. Durán Barroso (University of Valladolid), Dr. Ignacio de Miguel (University of Valladolid) and Dr. José Alberto Hernández (Carlos III University of Madrid)
Organization and information: Universidade de Valladolid: Ignacio de Miguel (ignacio.miguel@tel.uva.es) and Ramón J. Durán Barroso (rduran@tel.uva.es)
Summary: Machine learning is a branch of artificial intelligence that aims to develop computer systems that learn from data, allowing, for example, identifying patterns, recognising objects in images, predicting the evolution of variables or the occurrence of events, and has applications in multiple fields, such as Industry 4.0, e-commerce, medicine, education or economics, to name but a few. This training activity will provide an introduction to machine learning and in particular the following aspects:
- What is machine learning? Foundations
- Example of learning models; linear models, neural networks,...
- How to choose a learning model? Validation techniques and performance evaluation
- How to select the characteristics to be used in these systems?
Target audience and prerequisites: The orientation of this activity will be completely transversal, so the tutorial can be useful for people working in different areas.
